BECAUSE THE GOSPEL IS A MESSAGE THAT IMPLIES A HEAVY AND DISAGREEABLE CHARGE AGAINST THOSE WHO HEAR IT, IT MUST BE PREACHED WITH BOLDNESS AND FAITHFULNESS. It addresses all men as enemies of God, sinners, under the wrath of God, and deserving of everlasting judgment. When man's depravity is plainly exposed, he will rise up against the preacher who exposes it. But the preacher must not back up (Ezek. 3:16-21). He must be faithful.
BECAUSE IT IS GOD'S MESSAGE AND GOD'S TRUTH, THE GOSPEL OUGHT TO BE PREACHED WITH FIRM CONFIDENCE, FEARLESS OF CONSEQUENCES. "He that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully." Woe unto that man who shuns to declare any part of God's counsel! He who preaches the whole truth will be reproached, sometimes even by his brethren and friends, as one who is inconsistent and unorthodox. But if he knows he declares God's truth, the opinions of men hold no weight (Eph. 6:19-21).
BECAUSE THE GOSPEL IS A MESSAGE OF IMMENSE IMPORTANCE, IT OUGHT TO BE PREACHED EARNESTLY, WITH A SENSE OF URGENCY. This is God's ultimatum to man - Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, or be damned! Repent, or perish! (Mark 16:16; Acts 4:12). There is no other sacrifice for sin and no other way of salvation, except the Lord Jesus Christ. Our message demands urgency and earnestness (II Cor. 5:11, 20, 21).
BECAUSE IT IS A MESSAGE OF INFINITE WISDOM, THE GOSPEL OUGHT TO BE PREACHED WITH STUDIED SIMPLICITY. Any man who is too lazy to study has no business preaching. And any man who cannot preach with clarity and simplicity does not understand his subject. God's servants both study and use great plainness of speech in preaching the gospel (I Tim. 4:12-16; I Cor. 2:4-5).
BECAUSE IT IS A MESSAGE OF MERCY, GRACE, AND LOVE, THE GOSPEL OUGHT TO BE PREACHED IN LOVE (Eph. 4:15). No man preaches the gospel as it ought to be preached who does not preach with a tender, affectionate, caring heart.
