In this matter of preaching the gospel there are four issues that must be dealt with. Wherever our text is taken, whatever our subject, these four truths must be insisted upon. If not, all that we say is criminal and is not the gospel of God.
Secondly, Christ must be preached. The whole Christ. Not Just parts of Christ, but Christ Jesus the Lord. Christ is God incarnate. He is God and man united in one glorious body. The preaching of Christ Jesus the Lord is a declaration of His glorious Person, His perfect, satisfactory, efficacious work in the redemption of His people, and His sovereign rule and dominion over all things and men, and His perpetual position at the right hand of the Father as His peoples' Great High Priest, Advocate, and Intercessor.
Thirdly, all the elect of God are saved by the grace of God in Christ. Every individual that God the Father gave God the Son in the Eternal Covenant of Grace before the world was will be glorified with Christ and in Christ in the ages to come. The Gospel declares that GOD SAVES SINNERS BY HIS GRACE. God the Father chose them, God the Son redeemed them, and God the Spirit calls them through the preaching of Christ Jesus the Lord. TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
Fourthly, "we preach not ourselves." To deviate from the message which gives God all the glory, presents a whole Christ, and declares salvation for sinners by the grace of God alone is nothing more or less than "preaching ourselves." We can be sure of this, if anything is added to the gospel, it will be MAN. If anything is taken from the gospel, it will be THE GLORY OF GOD.
