Defending the Gospel

Defending the Gospel

Joe Terrell

"All believers are in some measure to defend the gospel. How, then, can one best defend the gospel? The gospel is best defended in the same way one defends a lion—LET HIM OUT OF HIS CAGE. We have too often "caged" the gospel in our creeds, systematic theologies, and confessions. We have our gospel safely tucked away on the book shelves of Pastor's studies and seminaries. But just as a caged lion is helpless, so is a "caged" gospel Powerless. We need to quit worrying about the gospel as though it is a fragile and helpless thing. IT IS THE POWER OF GOD SALVATION! It has brought down the likes of Nebuchadnezzar and the Apostle Paul. We need but preach it; let it go from the cages we have put it in, and it will take care of itself quite well. So, the next time someone attacks the gospel, don't try to protect it by your recitation of some credal doctrine. Instead, unleash the gospel in the full force of God's power. IT NEVER LOST A BATTLE YET!"
