Dear Bro. -- -- -- -- -- -
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ and not by the works of the law: For by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.
I do not frustrate the grace of God; for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain. This only would I learn of you, received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? No man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: For, the just shall live by faith, and the Law is not of Faith. If there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law. The law was our school master to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after faith come, we are no longer under the school master.
But now, after ye have been known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage? Ye observe days, months, times and years. Tell me, ye that desire to be under the law, do ye hear the law? Christ has become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace (fallen short of grace). For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.
Ye did run well: who did hinder you that ye should not obey faith? This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you.
For, Brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.
For this is the covenant that I will make with the House of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind. and write them in their hearts, and I will be to the them a God, and they shall be to me a people, in that He saith, A New Covenant. He hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.
Stand fast therefore in the liberty where with Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
My Dear Brother, after considering all these scriptural admonitions, how much of the Law would you like to try to keep? Would you like to keep the Sabbath? Then go ahead! Friday sundown to Saturday sundown. It hasn't changed since God commanded it. Sunday the first day of the week is not the Sabbath; God did not change the Sabbath day. God did not change any of the Commandments, they are still binding to the lawless, ungodly and unregenerate characters of the world. The law has not changed, but the covenant to those that believe has ushered in the Law Keeper Jesus Christ. the fulfiller of the Law and Commandments.
Brother, why in God's world are you beating this Sabbath issue like a dead horse. Can you not see the "rest" we have in Christ? You have taken one of God's commands and ride it like a hobby horse! Why don't you take all the Law and Commandments and strive to keep them? They are just as valid as the Sabbath Command aren't they? If they are not still binding to the one who desires to keep the law, please show me how they are free from part of the law and not all?
Everyday is my Sabbath Day in and through Jesus Christ, in Him I have rest and have ceased from my works. We worship on the Lord's Day, First Day of the week as did the early Christians, but that is not the Sabbath. The true Sabbath was a shadow of that which was to come "Christ the believers Sabbath". If you can keep the Sabbath (in your own mind) you my friend are "self-righteous" and have fallen short of His righteousness, going about to establish your own righteousness just like the Jews did in Romans Chapter 10.
Brother, I know truth can only come by revelation, therefore, I cannot persuade anyone to believe apart from God granting wisdom and understanding. I have merely compiled scripture context as a means to convey my point for your consideration. I am not a "Primitive Baptist", so you can't put me in that pigeon hole. I am of no particular party or denomination as you well know. My convictions to date are as God has given me understanding and only see ( as Paul said,) "through a glass darkly", but pray that what I see is correct. If all the righteousness and duty of the believer is totally of Christ, it must be correct, otherwise I would have wherewith to glory by performing part of the law keeping by my efforts.
If you keep the Sabbath Dear Brother, you have something wherewith you can glory in, you can tell the Lord you did it, you deserve to brag about it if you can do it. May the God of all grace lead you in truth and wisdom through Jesus Christ our Sabbath Rest.
Did not the God of Glory instruct the children of God to keep the passover forever? (Exodus 12:14).Who changed the passover feast? God did, by providing the ultimate lamb (Jesus Christ) "once and for all." Jesus Christ is the only lamb that can appease God eternally. "For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us " (I Corin 5:7). Now by a new and living way we remember His body and blood as a memorial (Luke 22:19).
Christ has satisfied all the law and commandments to them that believe and are called according to His purpose, yes, Christ has become our Passover and Sabbath. For He came not to do away with the law, but to fulfill the law (Matthew 5:17). Dear laboring Sabbath keeper, I behoove you to prove to me by the scripture where Christ failed to fulfill the Sabbath Day Law, and if he failed to fulfill this commandment, how many others do I by duty have to keep?
You can never rest spiritually as long as you have to do something in order to obtain righteousness. For one of the greatest truths in the Gospel is the revelation of "God's Righteousness". Paul said, "I declare His Righteousness". (Rom 3:26)
